Dear all,

I am member of a Climate Task Force that is reviewing current practices
in respect to weather data used for computer simulation of buildings and
their services, such as cooling/heating loads; summertime overheating;
energy consumption etc.. These applications currently use historical
weather data which has remained fairly stable over the past 20 to 30
years. However with the advent of climate change, designers will need
to address the affect of changing weather patterns over next, say, 15 -
30 years covering the life of the services/building.

The next generation of climate change information will be presented in
probabilistic terms as with the UKCIP08 climate scenarios, being
developed by the Hadley Centre. The Task Force's focus will be on the
practical use of probabilistic climate scenarios in the planning,
design, and construction of new buildings, as well as the retrofitting
and maintenance of existing buildings to ensure that when climate change
occurs, buildings continue throughout their lifetime to function safely,
comfortably, cost-effectively and without excessive need for
energy-intensive adaptation.

As part of this work I have been tasked with investigating what other
research in this area is being undertaken in Europe, and especially how
this should be reflected in the development of climate sets for
simulation studies.

My request to all you esp-r users is therefore, can you please provide
me with information about any initiatives in this field that you are
aware of.

Thanks,

Brian
