the message in regard to materials / constructions is not important, if you
are not using the corresponding construction. Otherwise it is probably
easiest to edit the construction in the database editor.
In regard to obstructions:
The .obs file is not used when using the new .geo format. Obstructions are
part of the new .geo files.
You must convert your .geo files to the new format. Then I would suggest
defining one or two simple obstructions and converting only one to polygons.
Something like this should end up in the .geo file:

You then need to calculate shading via the menu options. See the tester
model "sloped_obstr".

Dear Achim and list,
I updated ESP-r to version 11.9 to include non-rectangular polygon
obstruction blocks.
The first thin I noticed loading the model after the update was the
following error mesasge:
"Using installed version of esprc file.
When scanning materials db looking for legacy index 40
no match found for material named Concrete med density (1800) : Blockwork
(UK code)"
Is there an easy workaround for this?
Secondly the conversion of obstruction blocks to polygons seem to fail and I
cannot enter coordinates for the 8 vertices's and hence make polygon
obstruction block. Can I enter this manually within the obs-file and how
would the syntax look like?
Below you will find the present output when making polygon obstruction
blocks:

you most likely need a newer version of ESP-r or must at least convert your
.geo file to the new format with tags. Then you can define non-rectangular
obstructions. There should be a menu item "convert to free form" (or
similar) in the obstruction editing menu.

Hi, I am working in ESP-r version 11..4 modeling a building with a large
non-rectangular roof which shades the south facaing facades. I read in a
prior mail from Jon, that obstruction blocks can be modelled with 6 sides.
This seens hardli possi! ble when looking at the .obs file. My question
is how can I model an obstruction block or shading which 5 or 6 sides?
