A recent question....

Many users of ESP-r regularly simulation thermal+ network airflow. The standard
version of ESP-r works with networks of up to 200 nodes and there are
few users who work with networks of that complexity. Sometimes airflow
requires short timesteps and that can generate results files greater than 1GB
so some users choose to run a series of seasonal simulations.

Some specialist users of ESP-r simulation thermal + network airflow + 3D transient
CFD. That facility is currently limited by reporting facilities to 1000 timesteps.
No one has ever attempted to run an annual 3D transient CFD simulation.

And ESP-r can do many types of lighting analysis. It has several in-built
methods and methods that can use daylight factors supplied by users and
a number of controls for lighting that would be recognised by a
lighting engineer.

On several types of computers (Linux/OSX/Cygwin-under-windows) ESP-r can ask
Radiance to run at each timestep to assess the light falling on sensors
and this information can be passed back to ESP-r for control action.
Not very many people would choose to use the Radiance option for
an annual simulation.

One limitation is that ESP-r has limited reporting of the predictions of lighting and
this has been corrected and will be available in the next release.

And control of lighting can happen in models which also have air flow
networks. We have not heard of anyone doing lighting and CFD but
there should be no reason why that combination would not also work.

Dear all,

is it possible to annually simulate thermal+airflow+lighting with esp-r?

I hear from somebody espr can do this combining "RADANCE" software.

any anwers are helpful.

Paul
