Dear colleagues

Please note the following two important announcements for staff using Myplace this session:

1. The 'Getting Started' block which previously enabled staff to 'open' a class to students has now been replaced by the 'Quick Settings' block. From 5pm, Thursday 22nd September it will be located in the top left of your class site. A guide to this new block, which introduces greater flexibility of access to class sites is available here: http://support.myplace.strath.ac.uk/index.php?action=artikel&cat=12&id=69&artlang=en. If you class is starting next week, make sure 'Class Open' is set to yes!

2. As mentioned in previous communication, a Communications Tool has been released to provide greater flexibility to contact students through Myplace. The Communications Tool replaces the 'News Forum' feature, which users of Myplace during the 2010/11 session used for class wide announcements. The forum will remain in 'read only' format and be re-titled 'News Forum Archive' for staff who wish to retain records of announcements posted to this forum. The Comms Tool is available as a 'sticky block' (i.e. cannot be removed) for all class sites and provides staff with the facility to post class wide announcements. It is also possible to post to discrete cohorts, e.g. programmes or year groups by setting up corresponding sites - email learning-technologies at strath.ac.uk<mailto:learning-technologies at strath.ac.uk> for more information. Each user has access to View All Messages in one screen and messages posted via the tool will be emailed to individual accounts. Further guidance on using the tool is available on the Myplace Support site.

A quick reminder for those of you who used Myplace last session, we've been running a survey to get your feedback - if you've not done so already, please fill out the survey before the end of Tuesday 27th, details below.

We look forward to seeing those of you booked for the Learning Technology Enhancement Information Forum later today. We'll be in touch with news of latest activities and plans for the forthcoming session early next month.

Best wishes,
Cathy

The feedback questionnaire has been developed to gather feedback from staff, students and other stakeholders on the Moodle-based learning system 'Myplace' at the University of Strathclyde. Results will be used to provide an evaluation of the system and its use in academic year 2010-2011 and to inform future work such that developments in 2011-2012 and beyond are prioritised based on user requirements.
