Yes, SDHW is often used for hot water used by people. The model implemented
connects the solar collector to an accumulator tank. To test the system I pumped
the water from the accumulator through wet central radiator zones to heat the
zones if they were below a specific temperature. As the 'heat' is collected without
any electricity or gas (I am ignoring the pump electrical) there is nothing to report
for sensible heating load.

One can ask for the temperature at different places in the solar collector (in the
fluid, @ the air space above the panel, the walls of the case) and in the
accumulator as well as in the radiators. The energy balance of the occupied
zone should show considerable gains from warm surfaces (e.g. the radiator).

In my tests there were many hours when the solar gains were not sufficient
to warm the occupied rooms. If you wanted to ensure that the top zone of the accumulator was hot
when there is not enough solar radiation you can modify the model to
include an ideal heating controller sensing the temperature of the
top of the accumulator and injecting heat into the accumulator top
zone.

Later tests could be done to create a boundary node representing the
mains water to draw water from for use by people.

Hi Jon,

Thank you for your reply.

First of all when you mean SDHW (solar domestic hot water) I thought that you were talking about the hot water used by people in house. I thought that there is a solar panel on the roof of the house and it makes hot water to be used in bathroom and kitchen and when there is not enough solar radiation hot water is made by electric energy or a boiler using naturel gas. is it possible for me to convert this model into such a model?

I simulated the model for february and listed the data of sensible heating load in result analysis modul. many of the zones heating load is zero but few zones have heating load in some hour. does it mean that the solar panel is not enough at that times to keep the zone at 22 oC?

Thank you

Best
Gul

Some answers to your questions....

1) the model has no back-up heating - it relies totally on solar gains. If you want
the top of the tank to be maintained at a higher temperature you could use an
ideal control law to inject heat into the top tank zone (sense the temperature in
the top of the tank and actuate in that same zone). In the results analysis you
could then see how much heat had to be added to maintain the temperatures.
Assuming electrical resistance heating the reported heat injection value would be equal to
the electrical power.

2) I did not include any description of using hot water for people. I have not tested
if it is possible to get water from the tank. What temperature would the mains
water arrive at?.

3) how much water would be required and when would it be required? ESP-r
needs someone to define how much, what rate of flow in a schedule. Some
tests would be needed.

-Regards, Jon

Hi all,

I am working on cellular_expl_sdhw model. I simülated the model. However I have some questions if possible.

1- In result analysis modul How I can see the energy consumption of the model for hot water . I mean when thereis not enough sun for making hot water how the building makes hot water? with electricity or naturel gas?
2- is this model makes hot water just for heating the office? isnt it make hot water for people to use?
3- if it makes hot water for people to use so how much kg the daily hot water used by people?
Thank you so much for your time and help
Best
