I am not sure if you will get direct and diffuse separately via res (I think not). Anyway, in < tabular output, performance metrics, time step reports, surface flux > you find <sw rad incid (other face)> which, as far as I recall, is total short wave (aka solar) radiation on the surface of choice.

You can also try xml output, however I am not sure that this gives out direct and diffuse components separately, either (in the official version). Of course, you could also monitor a north faced (for locations in the northern hemisphere, that is) surface to get an idea of the diffuse component.

Sorry I don't have any more ideas. Maybe someone else will chip in.
