Dear Cathal

what was your (constant?) air change rate without the natural ventilation and what is your air change rate (wind/buoyancy driven) with natural ventilation at times where external temperature is below your heating set point? Did you plot supplied heat, ambient temperature and air change rate vs. time in res for both cases? Possibly you can find the explanation there.
