I am actively working with the climate module and can confirm that conversion from epw format takes place seamlessly. I managed to convert the Johannesburg file (attached) while working in the cygwin environment. The following method should work generally as well:
1. unzip the compressed zip file available from E+ site
2. run clm while in that folder
3. make new climate db (all zeros)
4. import from file > epw
clm then makes a binary ESP-r climate file

I exported that to ascii and am attaching it with this email.

There is a chapter in the ESP-r Cookbook (dec 2010 version) available on the ESP-r download page and
publications page which explains how to use the 'clm' module of ESP-r to do the conversion.

The email did not mention if there were any warnings or messages seen during your attempt to
convert the EPW file. Note the name of the converted file does not necessarily end in .bin (you
are asked to confirm the name of the converted file).

Also - you did not mention what version of ESP-r you are using or the operating system of your
computer. Older versions of ESP-r will not read new versions of the EPW file.

Subject: [esp-r] help on epw weather file to bin on ESP-r

Greetings,

I am quite new to ESP-r and am using it for my dissertation for my BSc and i am having trouble opening the weather files (Antananarivo/Cape-town/Johannesburg) on ESP-r.

I downloaded them from: http://apps1.eere.energy.gov/buildings/energyplus/cfm/weather_data.cfm

This link was obtained from the ESP-r website: http://www.esru.strath.ac.uk/Programs/ESP-r_capabilities/climate.html

After downloading the .epw file i tried importing it in the database maintenance menu. I even tried the ".epw to .bin converter" available but that did not create a .bin file in the folder and ESP-r still could not import the weather file correctly.

Can anyone help me regarding this matter?

Thank you,

Manish
