Dear Colleagues,
Re: Myplace unavailable on morning of Tuesday 27 January 2015 for essential maintenance and release of new features
Please note that Myplace will be unavailable on the morning of Tuesday 27 January 2015 for essential maintenance and release of new features for Semester 2. This has been timed with 12 weeks' notice to follow the end of the Semester 1 exam diet, and not interfere with students' revision in advance of this.
New features will include the following:
* Improvement to 'Quick Settings' block to allow more prominent display of multiple enrolment methods from one or more Pegasus class and/or programme codes - this a common scenario whereby a single class site has teaching material for more than one class code.
* Self-service option to allow users to create new sites on Myplace, e.g. for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) classes or for more general programme or department/subject sites, such as the ones that exist for Undergraduate Law Years 1, 2 and 3, allowing information to be displayed and notices to be sent to particular groups of students.
* Ability for external users whose organisations are members of the UK Access Management Federation (http://www.ukfederation.org.uk/) to login with their own credentials. This includes UK Further and Higher Education Institutions and organisations such as local authorities and NHS Trusts. This will remove the need to request a separate Strathclyde account to access Myplace.
Students will be notified of the interruption to service and reminders issued to staff 4 weeks and 1 week in advance via mailing lists and the staff weekly digest email.
Note that information about planned unavailability is always available on our support site<http://support.myplace.strath.ac.uk/display/MS/Planned+Myplace+Downtime> linked from the top 'About' menu on Myplace. Please contact the Information Services Enquiries Desk<http://www.strath.ac.uk/ithelpdesk/> if you have any queries about this or any other aspect of Myplace.
Best Wishes
