Myplace Upgrade 2012 and 2012-2013 Rollover Complete

Notice for staff at the University of Strathclyde,

The upgrade to the University's learning system 'Myplace' is now complete. Thank you to all users for your patience during our read-only period last week.

The upgrade brings new features and improvements based on the latest available Moodle functionality and in response to evaluation feedback from users.

 * Drag and drop file upload: now you can drag files and folders straight from your desktop and drop them into Myplace when using a compatible web browser<http://support.myplace.strath.ac.uk/index.php?action=artikel&cat=6&id=121&artlang=en&highlight=browser> (not Internet Explorer).
 * Mobile access: You can now access Myplace on a variety of popular mobile devices such as the iPad, iPhone and Android.
 * The ability to copy activities and resources.
 * Conditional release of activities and resources: This allows a user to determine when a resource or activity will be available to students and/or under what conditions i.e. if the student achieves a certain grade in a quiz, or on a certain day.
 * Assignment activity upgrade: The new assignment activity includes a cut off date function and a rubric that can be created and attached to any assignment activity.
 * Completion and activity tracking: Students are able to self-track their completion through a course, or a lecturer can determine what a student needs to do in an activity or activities to complete a course. Activity tracking varies depending on the activity. For example a student may need to post three posts to a forum in order to be seen to have successfully 'completed' that activity's requirements.
 * Quiz enhancements: These include a navigation panel that allows a student to navigate to any question in the quiz, question flags which allows a user to flag a question to be answered later and a more robust quiz engine.

The rollover/session change for 2012-2013 has also taken place, this has been earlier than in previous years in response to staff feedback:

* New versions of classes for 2012-2013 are now available in Myplace for staff to begin editing in preparation for the new academic year

* All 2012-2013 classes are closed to students by default - click on the red open/close button on the 'Quick Settings' block to open them

* All 2011-2012 classes are still fully available in the old version of Myplace - they are listed under 'previous years' at login

We will be running a series of workshops for staff between now and the beginning of the new academic year to demonstrate new features and support exploration of these in your own classes. Please book a session to attend:
