To solve it, go to the validation folder and copy the 320.ctl file inside the 960 model folder. Then rename it to 960.ctl and at at the last line of the file a 0. i.e. instead of

only to the Windows version and the validation section is not working in Windows (long paths.. long story) but I can run the models individually with no problems. The results seem reasonable. I manually paste them here:

Conclusion from this exercise: check your 900 model.

Having said that, from this exercise you will find that there are differences between the results of the current ESP-r and the version of 1993. This is normal because there have been several bug fixes and developments
all these years. They will not be large differences and they may be in tests where ESP-r set the lower or upper limits of the BESTEST in 1993. There may be a need for a review of the BESTEST suit and new ranges should be defined.

Anyway, you also mentioned CEN tests. What do you mean that you see differences there? These tests are all within the specified by the Standard ranges. They are more prescribed that the BESTEST, with strict ranges
and their output does not always mean that the program is accurate (i.e. it is only accurate under the prescribed conditions).

Dear Jon

Thanks for your answer. I checked the partition where /tmp is placed and it has 21 Gb of free space. I noticed that such problem begins after running any validation set for the first time. So I have to restart ESP-r 11.7 again to run another set. I am still
concerned about the differences between the current simulation results and the previous ones from ESP_1993 (they 're also found for other ASHRAE 140 validation sets and partially for CEN/ISO ones). Did you observe any difference between the results of your
tests and those from ESP_1993? I am afraid there is some compilation issue I am missing, any hint?

I am currently running "All the tests" in the BESTEST suite and thus far what
I have noticed is that model 960 is complaining about an issue in a control
file. (This is with a cutting edge version of ESP-r rather than the
standard version).

One issue is that the process places files in the /tmp folder. If your available
disk space is limited then the process could easily fail.
Subject: [esp-r] Problems running validation sets on esp-r

Dear ESP-r users,

I am experiencing problems running validation sets on ESP-r 11.7. After running the 960 (high mass sensitivity) validation set of the ASHRAE 140 for the first time, ESP-r returns the following:

Selected tests from group High mass basic sensitivity tests
900-600
Test: High mass basic sensitivity tests - 900-600

The simulation results are outside the ranges and are worse than the previous results form ESP_1993. If I try to run the same validation set again or any other set, ESP returns the following in the terminal:

closing export file: /tmp/900.dat
Generating specified output(s)...done.
Error opening results data file;
returning to main menu.

I've compiled ESP-r with gcc-3.4.6, gcc-4.1.2 and gcc-4.3 on Ubuntu 9.04 and the problem still persists.

Any help would be appreciated.
