Looking in the install script I have found the following: "if [ ! -d /usr/include/libxml2 ] && [ ! -d /usr/local/include/libxml2 ]; then" However the libxml2 folder is in /opt/local/include - should I edit the install script to look in this folder? I am using homebrew to get all the libraries etc. In a previous incarnation of the how to install in OSX the suggested way of invoking the install script gives a compiler version option of -6, i.e. or if you are using homebrew the compiler name is a bit different so use: ./Install_o1 -d /opt/esru --gcc4 --debug --compiler_version -6 Does this still apply? The GTK interface option contrary to the instructions, is not asked about interactively but is available as a command line option to the script. Is this because the use of GTK is discouraged or is it just a feature of the present install script? Similarly I get the following error message Installing components of ESP-r version V13.2.11 of 12 February 2019 to /opt/esru from source in /opt/ESP-r_V13.2.11_Src/src. - installing disableSQLite ... The attachment that Achim sent contains the input requirements for ESP-r's bidirectional facility. This was prescribed by Fraunhofer-ISE at that time and those inputs need some instrumentation to be generated. This paper describes how to generate the required inputs: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0378778805002082 While I have not used this facility for a long time, I am confident it should still work well. The warnings are from code that is reading the input file(s) - the actual calculation may or may not be impacted. Pre-defined entities include both polygons (for mass) and one or more visual bodies which can be passed to Radiance. The polygons are just points in space and if they draw correctly in the model then they should not be an issue. And if the bodies related to Radiance - well the test there would be to render and image to confirm whether or not those bodies are mis-interpreted. If, there were shading bodies that generated a warning then running a shading analysis and looking at the patterns of shading and/or insulation should indicate whether or not the shading pattern is silly. The other way to get into positive coordinates is to do a global transform of the model. However if I select the same file from within prj, save the project and then run the simulation, the simulation is carried out without any problems. Since I would like to do a number of simulations with nearly 500 different weather files, it would be easier if they could be selected from within bps. This behaviour is with both the graphical interface and the text based one. Any ideas? Is it likely that the problem resides with bps as it happens whether I specify a weather file from the original set of files that come with the program or the files that I have added to the database (With the corresponding entries in climatelist)? The weather files load and display things like a frequency bar chart in the synoptic analysis in clm without a problem. I'll make sure the fix is included in the next update. In the mean time, if you want an immediate solution, instructions for fixing the problem follow: 1. In the ESP-r source code, open file "src/ebps/bps.F". 2. Replace line 1060, which currently reads: call EFORTRAN(ICLIM,llclmdb,MCM*24,0,IER) with this: call CLMOPB(0,IER) 3. Replace lines 1062 - 1066, which currently read: IREC=366 READ(ICLIM,REC=IREC,IOSTAT=ISTAT,ERR=103)ICYEAR,ICDNGH IREC=367 READ(ICLIM,REC=IREC,IOSTAT=ISTAT,ERR=103)CLMLOC WRITE(OUTS,1000)CLMLOC,ICYEAR with this: CALL CLMRDBMD(IER) WRITE(OUTS,1000)CFLOC,ICYEAR 4. Recompile bps (at a Unix command line, issue command "./Install [any desired options] bps" from the ESP-r source code root directory). The .txt file is separated by spaces and organized in columns. When importing the .txt file into ESP-r, the program does not take into account my input for diffuse irradiation. Based on some general knowledge I have from the construction of this building, I have added some layers of cement in the ceiling and the floor. I don?t know how the internal walls have been constructed, but I have also added a layer of cement facing the inside of the room. In general, after multiple attempts I have not been able to add enough thermal mass and I have some undesired temperature peaks and lows. Regarding this I have the following questions: 1) Does ESP-r consider the thickness of the walls or are they "thin surfaces"? that means that it does not consider any heat being stored in these constructions. Same would go for the ceiling and floor? 2) Without adding any phase-change materials, is there a way to add thermal mass in the office? Does adding furniture help or are they just for visual purposes? Thank you very much in advance. Greetings, Juanita -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Before using a model, we often carry out a quick pulse test to determine the cool-down rate. This gives us a target for additional thermal mass. A pulse test involves heating up (or cooling down) one or more spaces until a reasonable temperaure difference exists with outside (10 C for example) and then observing the cool down (or heat up) rate. Also, make sure that you have not inadvertently isolated thermal mass by, for example, placing an insulation layer at an incorrect location. This suggests that your PATH environment variable (which tells the operating system where to look for executables) has not been updated. On Linux ESP-r executables are usually installed to /opt/esp-r/bin. You should have an entry in the form of: PATH="/opt/esp-r/bin:$PATH" in the .profile file in your home directory. To see if the operating system can find the ESP-r tools type in the following command: which bps and if it returns /opt/esp-r/bin/bps then you are good to go. -Jon Hand ________________________________________ From: esp-r-bounces at lists.strath.ac.uk [esp-r-bounces at lists.strath.ac.uk] on behalf of Juanita Solano Guzm?n [juanita.solano94 at gmail.com] Sent: 30 July 2019 10:38 To: esp-r at lists.strath.ac.uk Subject: [esp-r] cannot open Simulation window Hello everybody, at the moment I am not able to open my simulation window, as well as the shading/insolation one or when trying to browse my weather data. The ?.? files are usually hidden. Did you enter ls -al ? That also shows hidden files. It is possible that you do not have an own .profile (actually, with bash, it can be .bashrc and/or .bash_profile, as well). And I suppose we are talking about your home directory? If there is no such file in your home directory, then simply create one (with a text editor, pure ascii) and add the PATH directive. Then you do not need to enter it every time. In order to get the coefficients a, b, c, d, e, you have to fit in the latent part from your data to the following equation: Y=(a+cX+eX^2)/(1+bX+dX^2) Y is latent heat and X is temperature latent heat goes from 0% to 100% between Tmelt and Tsolid. It is simple to extend the .spm file in your model as Achim described. 1. Change the type from 53 to 55 2. Increase the number of data items to 11 3. Include the 11 data as mentioned above under #data. I would also recommend the exemplar cellular_PCM! It was my first direction when I recently used the PCM model. In the source code you can find all the exemplar under models/training. I believe Types 53 and 55 works for the melting curve! Good luck! I'll try to implement it. I just realized that my ESP-r is not very up to date so I don't seem to have the files of the cellular_PCM example. I would have to talk to the Admin to get the latest ESP-r version, but in the meantime, would it be possible to download the example file directly from the website? I couldn't find it. Also, is T_solid the temperature at which phase-change occurs from liquid to solid when looking at the enthalpy curve for cooling? or the temperature at which phase-change process ends when looking at the melting curve, i.e. the end point of the melting range? thank you! Greetings, Juanita Am Fr., 2. Aug. 2019 um 10:16 Uhr schrieb >: Hi Juanita, As Achim Clarified, in order to use different PCM model you need different inputs. for example type 55 needs 11 inputs value and should be arranged as below: Tmelt, Tsolid, Conductivity in solid, Conductivity in liquid, Specific heat capacity in solid, Specific heat capacity in liquid, a, b, c, d, e For this type you need the DSC data. Support for xml output will be disabled but the rest of the installation will proceed normally. I have found the libxml2-2.9.1 folder in Macintosh HD? ? ?opt? ? ?local? ? ?share? ? ?doc? and copied it to /usr/local/include but the installer still gives the same error message. If I rename the copy to simply libxml2, will this work or do I need to use an earlier version? At least on re-running the Install with the following: bash-3.2$ sudo ./Install -d /opt/esru --gcc4 --reuse_ish_calcs --complex --xml --force --compiler_version -6 The "--compiler_version -6? is because I am using homebrew as the package manager. It does say that it is including xml support (after renaming the folder libxml2-2.9.1 to libxml2). I do get an error message at the start "./Install: line 334: ldconfig: command not found? Line 334 is: ld_output=`ldconfig -p | grep libxslt` As far as I can Google, it seems that ldconfig is not available in OS X and neither is it needed. Can anyone confirm this? To correct this open up the file pdb.F in a text editor and look for a string variable named pagestitle change its definition to the following and this should fix the issue. character pagestitle*112 ! for banner title via epages call You then need to re-compile the pdb application. If you are using a recent version of ESP-r you have a number of options for creating model contents reports. As well as simple text output you can have the contents written out in Markdown format which allows easy conversion to lots of other document formats. If the kind of summary report you are looking for relates to performance data the attached document also provides some examples of exporting various reporting types from the results analysis tool. Res has a number of user directives that format csv files for easier use in spreadsheet applications. If you are not using a recent ESP-r then consider upgrading! In this file, you have various options to control what is written to the files created. plant/GSHP/misc_data/Heat_Out type entries create ?summary? output of the corresponding variable. building/EWKn/EWKn_S*/node_14/temperature type entries create (building) time step output of the variable.
