[esp-r] Re: User-defined weather files

Please read the chapter about weather files in the ESRP-r Cookbook.

There are two formats of the file, what the simulator reads is a random
access binary file and there is an import and export function in the clm
module which can convert this to a simple text file (ASCII). Typically
the ASCII version has the same file name but with a .a ending.

What the image shows - notepad++ being confused
by a file type (the random access binary file) that it cannot read.

Dear Jon,

I was unable to open climate files with notepad++. Here's what it looked like:

Remember that ESP-r model files and text files (like the text export weather file and 'climatelist' file)
are simple (ASCII) text files. If you are going to edit them then use a text editor (like notepad++) rather
than a word processor. MS Notepad and Word will often mess up simple text files.

A new facility is awaiting inclusion in the standard ESP-r that will allow you to import
column data from csv (comma separated) files and do a range of unit conversions.

Subject: [esp-r] User-defined climate control file

Hi,

I intend to create an esp-r climate file with accurate values of hourly direct insolation and hourly ambient temperature, but I find only 'sections' of a typical climate file. I want to know what a climate file looks like and how they are created/edited.

I am unable to edit the default climate databases with Notepad, Word or Excel. I would greatly appreciate explanatory links/videos.

Thanks,

Satyajit
