While Xzip was dead, it reincarnated as geo3d which is much powerful. See the attachment to judge. Best of all, it is free for all to use.
With it, along with the DXF importing toolkits, we have created complex buildings and imported/exported numerous complex DXF files successfully. I am sure many users in this group will agree with that. (not that some of them made lots of $$ using it ;-).
Anyone who interested is welcome to get in touch for download.

david

XZIP might be long dead for most people. DXF suffers from being both ugly and its inability to hold the kind of attributes that simulation needs.

And there are some new beasties on the block (Revit and ArchiCAD) and I have been testing out interfaces to both of these which bypass the DXF and generate a well populated (zones, constructions, operations) ESP-r model (there are some limitations of course).

I am actually meeting today with a small company in Seoul Korea who is working on the ArchiCAD interface and I hope to find out what the availability is for general release (free and or paid) to the ESP-r community.

I also gave a recent presentation at eSim in Winnipeg Canada on this topic. It would be interesting to find out who in the existing ESP-r community would be interested in access to plug-ins. Please email me your comments and/or expressions of interest.

Regards, Jon Hand

Hi David

to my knowledge, the xzip tools that are still lurking in ESP-r are obsolete (for quite some time now). I think the current development_branch (and next release) uses .dxf as default.

However, be aware that dxf import is also restricted (I never succeeded in importing more than, say, 3 or 4 zones with maybe 10 to 12 surfaces each at once).

Best
Achim

Hi,

I'm trying to make complex buildings in ESP-r, unfortunately the complex geometry made this task difficult to make in ESP-r, so I'm looking forward to third-party applications, I was searching in google for the XZIP tools, but it seems that it doesn't exist... even at the IES website...

can some of you give me a link where I can download or buy this software?

Thanks

David Garcia
