You are correct - creating plant networks can be a challenge. It is  
also a challenge
how to write instructions for creating plant networks.  There  
probably should
be several hundred pages devoted to plant networks in the cookbook.

Learning how to do this is much easier if you can talk to and/or work  
with a
person who has already defined and successfully used plant networks.
